Free up your SharePoint.
Keep your data.

The same volume as extra SharePoint storage: $79/month — you save $15 every month.
Transparency: a full bulk restore of one terabyte costs about $158 / TB in Azure fees (reads + network egress), billed by Microsoft — Hilo charges nothing extra for restores. File-by-file access through the portal remains marginal.

Prefer S3-compatible storage (Backblaze, Wasabi…)? Also possible — custom offer, talk to us.

How it works

File-by-file archiving, never site-by-site — automatic from your rules (e.g. "untouched for 5 years"), or on demand.

Copy

The file is copied from SharePoint to an Azure blob container in your account, at the Cold tier, GRS-replicated.

Verification

The copy is read back from Azure and its SHA-256 fingerprint compared. Nothing is removed from SharePoint without that proof.

Shortcut

A clickable marker file stays in the SharePoint folder: it says where the content lives and links to the portal.

Restore

From the portal, every file restores to its current location — even if the folder was moved or renamed.

Why IT teams choose us

Your data stays yours

Storage lives in your Azure account: billed by Microsoft directly, hosted in Canada, readable even if you stop using Hilo.

Verified byte for byte

Every file is read back from Azure and its SHA-256 fingerprint compared before SharePoint is touched. Automatic checks then re-verify the archives every night.

Your rules, your pace

"Over 100 MB and untouched for 3 years": set the criteria, the schedule and the scope. Or tick a checkbox right in SharePoint.

Quota freed immediately

Your SharePoint limit breathes as soon as files are archived — without buying Microsoft storage at 10-20× the price, and without moving whole sites.

Prices in Canadian dollars. The Hilo Archive service is billed by Hilo; Azure costs are estimated from Microsoft's public list prices in Canadian dollars (Canadian regions, GRS redundancy) and billed by Microsoft directly to your account — subject to change by Microsoft.

Cold tier: 90-day minimum retention per object, read fees on retrieval. Cool tier: 30-day minimum retention, cheaper reads, storage about 2× the price. Azure bills a 128 KiB minimum per object on Cool and Cold — our analyses compute it for your estate before any decision.

Microsoft 365 Archive: about $0.07 CAD per GB per month, inactive sites only. Extra SharePoint storage: about $0.27 CAD per GB per month.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum retention period on Azure?
Yes. The Cold tier has a 90-day minimum retention per object, and the Cool tier 30 days. Deleting or retrieving a file before that window incurs early-deletion fees billed by Microsoft — our archiving rules target dormant files precisely to avoid those cases.
Are my archives stored in more than one place?
Yes. Storage uses Azure GRS redundancy: every file is replicated across two separate Canadian data centers. On top of that, SHA-256 validation runs at archiving time plus automatic nightly integrity checks.
How am I billed?
Two separate invoices: Hilo bills the Hilo Archive service, and Microsoft bills the Azure storage directly to your account. No markup on storage — you pay Azure's public rate.
Is there a minimum volume?
No, there is no minimum volume required. Minimum service billing is however 1 TB per month.
Can I use storage other than Azure?
The overall solution and its bulk pricing were designed around Azure, but S3-compatible storage (Backblaze, Wasabi…) is also possible as a custom offer — talk to us.
Can I recover my files myself?
Yes. The Hilo Archive portal restores each file to its current location, even if the folder was moved or renamed. The shortcut left in SharePoint also links straight to the archived content.
Can Hilo help me recover?
Yes, at no service charge: Hilo bills nothing for a restore. Only Azure read and network egress fees apply, billed by Microsoft (see the transparency note in the simulator).
Is the offer competitive?
Yes. At equal volume, Hilo Archive comes out 3 to 5 times cheaper than Microsoft's additional SharePoint storage, while keeping a SharePoint-independent copy in your own Azure account.
