Overview

The 3-2-1 rule, done right

Ransomware targets backups first. Hilo Tech applies the modern 3-2-1 rule: three copies of your data, on two different media, with one offsite immutable copy. We use Veeam, MSP360 and Datto to cover physical servers, virtual machines, Microsoft 365 and endpoints, all hosted in certified data centers in Quebec and Ontario. Our backups are encrypted, tested monthly and include a formal disaster recovery plan.

Doesn't Microsoft already back up our 365 data?

Microsoft offers limited retention (30-90 days depending on service) and protection is a shared responsibility with the customer. Accidental deletion or ransomware can cause data loss. Third-party backup is strongly recommended.

Where are our backups stored?

In data centers in Quebec (Montreal) and Ontario (Toronto), certified SOC 2 and ISO 27001. 100% of data stays on Canadian soil.

How long do you keep backups?

Default: 30 daily, 12 monthly, 7 yearly, adjustable based on legal and operational needs.

How long does a full restore take?

A single file: minutes. A full server: 1-4 hours depending on size. A full site (after major disaster): 4-24 hours depending on the chosen recovery strategy.
